A heat advisory is in force for the northern half of the region from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. today, with heat index values forecast to reach 108ยฐF to 111ยฐF. The searing heat comes as high-pressure conditions limit cloud cover and showers, increasing the risk of heat-related illnesses.
The National Weather Service forecasts that severe temperatures will primarily affect Vernon, Rapides, Avoyelles, Beauregard, Allen, Evangeline, and St. Landry Parishes, along with Tyler, Hardin, Jasper, and Newton Counties in Texas. Residents in these places should stay hydrated, take regular pauses in the shade or indoors, and not leave children or pets in automobiles.
Looking forward, thunderstorms will decrease in southeastern Texas and southwestern Louisiana early this week. Temperatures will be in the low to mid-90s through Wednesday, but greater rain chances and more extreme heat are forecast later in the week, particularly around the coast.
Furthermore, we predict an increase in flash flooding threats later this week, with a slight chance of extreme rainfall in sections of Acadiana on Thursday. This is likely to cause localized flooding, particularly near stalled weather systems around the northern Gulf Coast.
Here is the five-day forecast for Southeast Texas and Southwest Louisiana:
- Sunday: 91-96ยฐF, rain chances 10-20% (mainly PM)
- Monday: 91-97ยฐF, rain chances 10-20% (mainly PM)
- Tuesday: 92-98ยฐF, rain chances 10-15% (mainly PM)
