The Slowride Fishing Guide

During the busy summer season, I get to meet and fish with many people from across the country so I get to exchange notes with anglers that pursue many other species on much different terrain than I do on a daily basis. But it’s always fun to realize how similar fishing is in many different places across the country. Whether you’re fishing for bass in the reservoirs or trout on the rivers or redfish in the bays, the changes in the weather affect the fish’s behavior very similarly, and lures of different varieties can yield similar results. It really gets fun when you have cooperative fish and a really good bite going on so you have time to change baits and analyze the reaction.

The early bird gets the fish

The weather is beautiful, the fishing is great, and everybody is out to have some fun in the sun and enjoy a midsummer vacation on the coast. Vacation means different things to different people and Aransas Pass, along with our surrounding communities, has so many resources to offer for a wide variety of excursion choices. Whether you are looking for something as easy as beachcombing or something as exciting as an offshore fishing trip for sharks or anything in between, this is definitely the time of year to be here enjoying the coastal scene. Boat sales and kayak sales were both off the charts during the past year with so many people enjoying close-to-home activities. Now those people are out on the water enjoying their new toys. And, yes, it is awesome to see everybody out there, but there will be some safety concerns with the congested waterways. A little consideration for your fellow boater and angler can be very helpful during the busiest time of the year to on the water.

The Slowride Fishing Guide

July has been a month filled with a variety of weather conditions to deal with. Everything from floods to Saharan dust clouds and it appears that heat will dominate the conversation over the next couple of weeks. Getting out early is a great advantage to beat the heat as well as getting ahead of the crowds that will congest the waterways as the multitude of vacationers enjoy their end of summer trips. I always see a noticeable increase in traffic on the water in the few weeks before the kids go back to school. Everybody wants to have that cool story to tell about that big fish when they get back to class in the fall. Challenges just have to be dealt with, and even though the heat of summer is at its peak, with a few adjustments we all can be successful.
