Ingleside Entrepreneur Succeeds with Faith on her Side

Small signs hang on a wall representing the workstation of stylist Nora Elkins, proud owner of ‘Beauty Buzz’ that opened its doors to customers for the first time in late August. One reads, ‘Thankful, Grateful, and Truly Blessed’. Ask the 53-yearold Ingleside resident why her faith and religious beliefs are so important, and she breaks down in tears. She is reminded how difficult her early life was, growing up in an impoverished family, toiling as the daughter of Mexican immigrants to succeed both spiritually and financially, memories of the long struggle impossible to forget.

In the dark of night, this intersection at Hwy. 361 and Ave. J at the corner of busy N.O. Simmons Park is considered a dangerous place to cross the street at night because of poor lighting. Ingleside officials continue discussions with TXDOT about improvements that could eliminate this public safety risk. A TXDOT engineer has looked over the area, according to City Manager Brenton Lewis.

Oh Say, You Can’t See: Ingleside’s Dangerous Crossing

Summer is waning, and fall is rapidly approaching. But one thing that remains consistent is the regular use of one of Ingleside’s most publicly seen assets, N.O. Simmons Park with its children’s playground, skate park, and multipurpose athletic fields that are bordered by Hwy. 361 and Ave. J. The large outdoor space is often converted into gathering places for major events like the annual Round Up Days & Music Festival that includes a massive carnival midway.

Ingleside’s ‘Blue Man’ Returns as Mustang’s #1 Fan

It’s been a long time since anyone saw ‘The Blue Man’ attend a Mustang’s football game in Ingleside. Rosendo Adame’s elf-imposed absence for more than a decade followed the death of his mother, and years later, his wife. Both were emotional losses that created tremendous heartache. But Adame told the Index he was coming back to rally fans once again, a highlight of the ‘Battle of the Bay’ season opener at Mustang Stadium September 1st. He accompanied the Navy Junior ROTC Color Guard as they marched on the field, and then fired up the crowd for an exciting game that Ingleside won, defeating the Aransas Pass Panthers, 58-6.
