A 34-year-old Salem emergency medical technician was detained after a federal investigation revealed his alleged participation in multiple online groups dedicated to distributing child sexual assault material.
Connor McAuliffe was arrested on August 6, according to ICE’s Homeland Security Investigations New England. According to investigators, McAuliffe was an active member of a vast encrypted chat group with over 1,000 members worldwide, all of whom were involved in the unlawful trade of content. He also allegedly belonged to at least 14 other similar organizations on the same site.
Officials highlighted that McAuliffe’s job as an EMT put him in a position of public trust and brought him into touch with vulnerable people, particularly children. He was accused with receiving and having child sexual abuse material.
Federal officials reaffirmed their commitment to protecting youngsters and pursuing those who commit such actions.
