A Miami woman is facing two charges, including a felony, after police said she slapped a senior over a chair at Aventura Mall, causing him to be hospitalized.

According to Aventura police, the incident happened shortly after 5 p.m. Sunday near the mall’s recently opened Eataly food hall.

According to the arrest report, Lelia Trinchero, 44, of Coconut Grove, told officers that she “sat at a table to eat food and wait for her husband and son,” which she said was empty, when a woman “approached her and told her that her family was sitting at that table.”

According to authorities, this sparked a discussion regarding whether the table was filled before Trinchero sat down. According to the report, Trinchero started ranting at the woman as she removed chairs from the table.

Police added that as the woman took the remaining chair, Trinchero smacked her across the arm “and they began to struggle over the chair.”

Police stated a 72-year-old man from the woman’s party interfered to break up the altercation. According to authorities, Trinchero hit him across the face, causing “pain and dizziness” and sending him to the hospital.

Trinchero was arrested on allegations of battery on someone above the age of 65 and battery.

A court established probable cause to charge her on Monday and ordered her release on her own recognizance.
