Officials confirmed that human remains discovered in the Ocala National Forest were most likely those of Michael Connell, a Lake County man reported missing earlier this year.
Connell, who stands 5 feet 9 inches tall and weighs around 185 pounds, was last seen on May 29 at the intersection of Kismet Road and County Road 445. He was dressed in a brown camouflage jacket and dark blue cargo pants, and he was healing from a broken leg received in an automobile accident. He did not own a smartphone and was a frequent visitor to the Umatilla Library.
Connell’s bicycle was found at the same intersection on July 23, nearly two months after he was last seen. The Lake County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that they believe the remains found in the woodland to be his, and they are actively investigating the matter.
