Texas – A 35-year-old man, A. Gutierrez, has been sentenced to 25 years in prison after viciously attacking a woman who was three months pregnant. Gutierrez beat her severely, threatened both her life and her unborn child’s, and was convicted of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. The judge emphasized the seriousness of the crime and Gutierrez’s violent past while delivering the sentence.

The District Attorney’s Office confirmed that this wasn’t Gutierrez’s first offense. He was previously convicted of continuous family violence in 2016 and served five years behind bars. The latest conviction stems from a January 2024 attack that left the woman unconscious and in critical need of emergency care. Officers responded to Gutierrez’s property after a 911 call was abruptly cut off. Inside the RV, they found the woman with severe injuries. First responders noted significant trauma to her face, chest, and stomach — the latter especially alarming given her early pregnancy.

The woman, whose identity remains confidential, shared harrowing details of the assault with authorities. She said Gutierrez flew into a rage during an argument, locked her inside the RV, and threatened to ensure she wouldn’t carry the baby to term.

He yanked her by the hair and punched her repeatedly in the face and stomach—deliberately targeting her unborn child. The attack escalated when he grabbed a 10-inch kitchen knife and held it to her neck, threatening to kill her. Though he eventually discarded the knife, he resumed the beating, using his fists, knees, and feet until she lost consciousness.

After regaining consciousness, the woman seized a brief moment to call 911. She managed to give the address before disconnecting—a crucial act that led officers directly to the scene. Meanwhile, Gutierrez had stepped outside the RV, reportedly to dispose of evidence, according to the District Attorney’s office. When officers arrived, Gutierrez tried to manipulate the situation by pressuring the woman to lie. He instructed her to claim she was attacked by two unknown women to avoid legal consequences.

However, officers quickly uncovered the truth. Inside the RV, they discovered unmistakable signs of violence—broken glass, bloodstains, and the knife used in the assault. Gutierrez was arrested at the scene and charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, along with other family violence-related offenses.

Assistant District Attorneys A. Andreski and R. Porter led the prosecution and stressed the importance of intervening before domestic violence escalates. “This sentence ensures that this victim and her child are protected from further violence,” they said, “and demonstrates our commitment to holding domestic abusers accountable.”

According to Texas law, Gutierrez must serve at least half of his 25-year sentence before becoming eligible for parole. With the case now closed, the DA’s office hopes the outcome delivers a strong message about the serious consequences of domestic violence — especially when it threatens not just one life, but two.
