Kaye Hester (left), 71, dreamed up an idea to surprise her 93-year-old mother, Nalda Louise Sullivan for her birthday January 16, posting in two local Facebook groups she invited neighbors from Ingleside on the Bay to stop by, wave, and offer her mom best wishes on her special day. The family relocated to IOB from Hobbs, New Mexico six months ago and knew no one, or had family nearby. Kaye could never have imagined the success of her plan.

Hester’s invitation asked anyone who wanted to drive-by their home at 421 Bayshore Dr., starting around 5:30 p.m. Nalda loves sitting on the second-floor balcony, looking out at the Gulf each morning and evening, watching dolphins. Right on cue, IOB residents began to come up to the front of the house, many who led a caravan of golf carts, some dropping off gifts or edible treats for the peninsula newcomer who was overwhelmed by the friendly gesture. She waved back, saying, ‘Thanks y’all”, as the parade of birthday revelers came past, honking. Waving.
