Disturbing images of the Ingleside Animal Shelter are just a few of the photos Police Chief Tammy Burr shared with City Council members January 10, reminding elected officials the city leases the space, taxpayers stuck paying $65,000 a year for the privilege despite the building’s increasing deterioration. While the Council listened patiently to Burr’s update they took no immediate action other than to defer the matter to the City Manager for further review. In the meantime, Burr revealed the situation for both animals and workers is dire, describing a “blood bath” after some dogs have injured themselves on broken fencing, while paid staff may be exposed to dangerous mold.
