Driverless garbage truck hits cars and homes in New Jersey neighborhood
A garbage truck went crazy in New Jersey, causing havoc in the New Milford community. Usually, these vehicles are deadly even with a driver, but the one that hit cars and houses was unmanned.
Milford police officers reported that a privately owned truck was picking up rubbish on Eagle Avenue at 7:15 a.m. The 46-year-old driver got out of the truck to help with the loading and claims he put it in park first.
According to North Jersey, the truck went into drive mode without anyone inside. Then it began rolling down the road. When the driver discovered it was rolling away, he went up to it and attempted to climb inside.
However, the door was locked. It collided with three parked cars, pushing one into a driveway. Other vehicles were pushed into a house.
The impact of cars ramming into the house moved the gas meter, which firefighters eventually stabilized. Furthermore, the house sustained minor structural damage, although no one was wounded.
The motorist was summoned for delaying traffic, leaving the engine running, reckless driving, and careless driving.
A garbage truck typically weighs 33,000 pounds, but they can weigh up to 55,000 pounds. They can roll away with great power.
