The Jasper County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that the district attorney ordered that charges be dropped against a man detained in connection with his nephew’s death.

Victor Jerome Carver III of Tennessee was originally charged with manslaughter when 17-year-old Caden Cantrelle’s body was discovered in Jasper County on July 7th.

According to the JCSO, the charges were dropped because the autopsy on Cantrelle failed to reveal a clear cause of death.

Jasper County Sheriff Randy Johnson said that the inquiry into Cantrelle’s death is still ongoing.

WSMV 4 in Nashville, WDAM 7’s sister station, revealed that employees of the Tennessee Department of Children’s Services had either been fired or resigned in the wake of Cantrelle’s death while in their custody.

This is an ongoing story.
