A high-impact, head-on collision along Charles Street (MD Route 6) in La Plata killed two persons and hospitalized a third on Saturday evening in July 2025.
Around 7:19 p.m. on July 26, authorities arrived at the 9900 block of Charles Street after receiving multiple 911 calls reporting a two-vehicle crash with individuals trapped. Emergency personnel from the La Plata Volunteer Fire Department, Charles County Department of Emergency Services, and Maryland State Police arrived on the site.
When authorities arrived, they discovered three women in a black 2000 Mercury Grand Marquis, all of whom were supposedly from Washington, DC, and Seat Pleasant, Maryland. Authorities pronounced two of the women, aged 29 and 31, dead on the scene. Trooper 2 extricated the third woman, who is 31 years old, and flew her to UM Capital Region Medical Center, where she remains in stable condition.
A preliminary examination found that a white 2021 Infiniti SUV heading eastbound on Charles Street crossed the center line and collided with the Mercury sedan head-on. The driver of the Infiniti, Cory Jermaine Kane, 46, of District Heights, allegedly rejected medical treatment on the scene and was arrested by La Plata Police.
According to police, drinking and speed were key factors in the La Plata crash in July 2025.
Charles Street was closed between La Plata Road and Prince Charles Drive for several hours.
