An 11-year-old girl was found safe in central Arizona after being reported missing in Phoenix many months ago.

The Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office (YCSO) and the United States Marshals Service (USMS) arrested the girl’s non-custodial mother and grandmother when she was discovered in Camp Verde earlier this month.

According to YCSO, the girl was reported missing by her father in Phoenix many months ago after he was unable to locate her. That began a multi-agency operation to find the girl.

The investigation found last week that the girl and the suspects were sleeping at a short-term rental in Camp Verde. YCSO and USMS conducted surveillance on the rental premises before approaching and recovering the girl.

According to the YCSO, the girl was located secure and unhurt, and both people were taken into jail peacefully. The girl was placed in the care of the Arizona Department of Child Safety (DCS).

The inquiry into this matter is ongoing. YCSO stated that no other information will be disclosed for the girl’s safety.
