Maria Segrest

Maria Segrest, 90, passed away May 31, 2016 in Abilene, Texas. She was born April 6, 1926, in Donna, Texas, to Donaciano and Irene Castillo Vasquez. Maria was past President of VFW Post 2932 Ladies Auxiliary and a life member of the organization. Her Patriotism was a big part of her life, and an article was written about her in the Aransas Pass Progress. She was well known for selling the most Buddie Poppies, visits to hospitals and nursing homes, serving sandwiches and coffee to Bingo players on Saturday nights. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend who will be greatly missed. She is preceded in death by her husband, Herbert Segrest. She is survived by her sons, Roy Pequeno of Aransas Pass, Michael Pequeno of Staples, Texas; daughters, Mary Aleman (Sixto) of Pasadena , Texas, Janie Garza-Simon (Kieth Simon) of Houston, Texas; three grandchildren, Noel Aleman, Eric Aleman (Julie), Christina Simon; three great-grandchildren, Alexis Aleman, Emily Aleman, Jasmine Aleman; Neri Vasquez Schoonover and numerous other nieces and nephews. Visitation was held Friday, June 3, 2016, from 9 a.m.-9 p.m. and funeral service conducted by Pastor Donald Volz began at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 4, 2016, at Charlie Marshall Funeral Home.
