A man wanted for killing his child’s mother and shooting his two children over the weekend in Tunica County was discovered dead on Tuesday, the sheriff’s office announced.

The Tunica County Sheriff’s Office (TCSO) reported that 41-year-old Markell Braxton’s remains were discovered Monday afternoon in a forested area behind a residence on Solei Drive in Robinsonville, Mississippi.

The TCSO had previously connected Braxton to a gunshot Friday night at the Solei Drive residence that killed 30-year-old Nykeria Jude and injured a 6-year-old kid and a 24-year-old male. Family members earlier told FOX13 that the two injured were Braxton’s children, with the woman being one of them.

TSCSO deputies and the US Marshals Service discovered Braxton’s body shortly after 4:40 p.m. on Monday. His cause of death was not immediately known.

TSCO stated that Braxton’s remains were being transported to the Mississippi Crime Lab for “positive identification.”
