Katherine Ann Roberts Ringer, Katie, to those who knew her, passed away May 15, 2018 in Kirkland, WA, at the age of 52. Katie is survived by her loving husband, Donald Ringer, of Kirkland, WA; her sons, Bradley David Maguglin Verhelst, of Conroe, Texas John Devin Verhelst of Spring, Texas and James Christian Verhelst, of San Marcos, Texas; her sisters RheaNell Roberts of Redmond, WA, and Carla Roberts Shultz of Aransas Pass. Katie is survived by four grandchildren, three nieces, a nephew, three great-nieces, and her loving dog Ryder. Katie was preceded in death by her husband David Kent Maguglin; and her parents Dorothy Joanne Butts Roberts and James Wendell Roberts, MD. Katie was born March 7, 1966 at Lyman-Roberts Hospital in Aransas Pass. She was raised in Aransas Pass, and completed her Bachelor of Education at Texas A&M University - Corpus Christi. She was an accomplished writer and poet, and an advocate for public education. After her move to Washington State, Katie started a new career as a much-loved nanny and elder caregiver. Katie’s life experiences led her to become passionate about respect for civil and human rights. She was politically and socially active for numerous causes she held dear. Katie will be remembered for her quick wit, infectious laugh, and sense of humor. A celebration of life is planned for Sunday, July 1, 2018 from 2 until 4 p.m. at Drifters Resort, 4401 Hwy 35 South, in Rockport, Texas. Katie’s family requests in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Everytown for Gun Safety (everytown.org), or to Planned Parenthood (plannedparenthood.org).
