IHS welder wins competition
Ingleside High School senior Alejandro Jimenez took first place in the Craft Training Center of the Coastal Bend’s 2018 welding pipe contest, beating out 29 other competitors. Instructor Aubie Glover pointed out the young man’s weld was as good as one completed by a grown man. Jimenez said one of the judge’s said he has worked in many companies, and told him his work was as good as that of someone who has already been working in the field. Jimenez said the competition lasted 2.5 hours, but he was not nervous as this was his fourth year in competition. However, when he heard he won, he was surprised and shocked because of the number of entrants. In addition to a trophy, the IHS student received a welding machine, books, gloves, and a $2,500 scholarship to the Craft Center, which he plans to attend beginning this summer.
