Early Monday morning, detention staff at the Moshannon Valley Processing Center discovered 32-year-old Chinese national Chaofeng Ge hanging and unresponsive in a shower room.

According to officials, Ge was discovered at 5:21 a.m., and staff immediately performed CPR before contacting Philipsburg Emergency Medical Services, Pennsylvania State Police, and the Clearfield County Coroner. Ge was pronounced deceased at 6:03 a.m. The cause of death is still under investigation.

Ge had been held in Immigration and Customs Enforcement detention for five days while awaiting an immigration hearing by the Department of Justice’s Executive Office for Immigration Review. He was being held after being released from a Pennsylvania jail, where he was sentenced for unauthorized access to another person’s device and conspiracy to commit the same act.

On January 23, Lower Paxton Township Police arrested Ge for illegal use of a communication facility, unauthorized use of a computer, and access device fraud. On July 31, he pled guilty and received a six- to twelve-month sentence on each count, with immediate release to ICE custody. He was processed at ICE’s York office before being moved to the Moshannon Valley Processing Center.
