In a significant victory against drug trafficking, the Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) apprehended Daniel Cuevas, a 47-year-old Orlando man identified as a high-level member of a Mexican drug cartel.
Cuevas was arrested on Friday during an undercover operation that led to the Seize of more than 4.4 pounds of fentanyl, enough to kill a million people.
The investigation began in July 2025, when FDLE Fort Myers agents got information about a cartel member trafficking substantial amounts of methamphetamine and fentanyl in the Orlando region. This intelligence prompted a planned operation, which culminated on August 7 with agents successfully conducting a controlled exchange and seizing Cuevas’ huge fentanyl stockpile.
The FDLE’s Special Operations Team made the arrest and transported Cuevas to Orange County Jail. He faces one charge of trafficking 28 grams or more of fentanyl.
Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier’s office is prosecuting the case, sending a strong message that the state will not tolerate drug cartel presence or operations.
“Florida isn’t open for cartel business,” the FDLE stated, underscoring the state’s dedication to preventing the flow of hazardous narcotics.
