Riverside Man Sentenced For Assault Of Girlfriend

A Riverside man has been sentenced to two decades in jail for Assault his girlfriend in 2019.

Platte County Prosecuting Attorney Eric Zahnd said on Wednesday that Charles Cooke was sentenced to 20 years in prison after pleading guilty to first-degree domestic abuse in April.

According to court records, Cooke left his then-girlfriend with a traumatic brain injury after hitting her more than 20 times in the face and head on October 15, 2019.

Cooke left the woman motionless on the floor, choking on her blood, according to the records. Cooke also recorded the assault on his mobile phone, and after beating the victim, officials said he spent 22 minutes cleaning up the crime scene.

Phone records showed that he drove about for about 10 minutes, phoning a friend and a family member before calling 911.

Following the incident, the woman spent more than two months in the hospital.

A Platte County judge ruled that Cooke must serve 85% of his sentence before becoming eligible for parole.
