Police: Teenager Detained Within 40 Minutes Of Armed Carjacking On Chicago’s West Side

A 16-year-old boy was detained on Sunday after carjacking a man at gunpoint and firing into a vehicle on the West Side, according to Chicago police.

The teen was nabbed in the 400 block of South Cuyler Avenue in Oak Park, less than 40 minutes after allegedly stealing a vehicle from a 28-year-old man at gunpoint in the Austin neighborhood’s 100 block of North Latrobe Avenue.

According to police, the teenager allegedly fired shots into a car. There were no reports of any injuries.

Police did not say whether the car the child reportedly took at gunpoint was the same one he is accused of shooting into.

The boy has been charged with two felonies.

  • Aggravated vehicular hijacking with a firearm
  • Aggravated assault for discharging a firearm into a motor vehicle
