An Ohio man faces many felony charges after police claim they discovered five kilograms of suspected cocaine during a traffic stop on Interstate 90.
According to court documents, Christopher James Hill, 29, of Parma, Ohio, was arrested on July 18, 2025, when a Lake County Sheriff’s Department highway interdiction officer stopped a black Chevrolet Malibu for a windshield obstruction at the 37-mile marker. Hill and another male passenger occupied the rental vehicle.
The officer got concerned after seeing contradictions in the men’s trip stories and sought a K9 unit. A police canine conducted a free-air sniff and detected the stench of drugs.
During a search of the vehicle, investigators discovered three securely wrapped cellophane bundles inside a gray bag in the back seat. Two further parcels were discovered inside a red bag. Based on the packaging and the officer’s experience, the material was suspected to be cocaine. The entire weight of the suspected drugs was around five kilograms (11 pounds).
Both individuals were detained on the scene. Hill later allegedly told federal officials that the parcels belonged to him, but he could not confirm their contents. He was booked into Porter County Jail. The second occupant was released from the scene.
The charges were officially filed on July 22, 2025.
