A judge in Frederick County, Maryland, sentenced a 46-year-old man to 30 years in jail on Monday for bringing fentanyl, heroin, and cocaine from Pennsylvania.

On March 28, a jury found Jerome Mario Britton guilty of several crimes, including possessing fentanyl, heroin, and cocaine with the intent to distribute.

Because of his previous criminal history, he received a sentence significantly higher than the state guidelines, according to officials.

Britton was sentenced to 20 years in prison for fentanyl distribution, followed by an extra 10 years for possessing fentanyl and heroin with the intent to distribute.

According to officials, on September 4, 2024, around 10:34 a.m., police received a tip from Carroll Township in Pennsylvania that Britton had driven to Harrisburg to buy drugs for resale in Frederick.

The same day, around 1:30 p.m., officers noticed a car registered to Britton’s wife parked in Frederick. According to officials, the car’s registration had expired, and cops performed a traffic check after observing Britton enter and drive away.

Officers discovered cocaine in the vehicle after a K-9 unit warned them.

A search of Britton yielded 15 baggies of fentanyl mixed with heroin totaling 9.4 grams and 11 baggies of cocaine weighing 2.3 grams.

“This Defendant is the definition of a recidivist. He has been committing crimes for 30 years. These significant sentences, to be served consecutively, are a result of great work by the Frederick Police Department and my Domestic Violence and Narcotics Units,” the State’s Attorney Charlie Smith said.

Officials said the 30-year sentence will run concurrently with a second 13.5-year sentence Britton got for domestic abuse and several violations of protection orders. That sentence was imposed by a jury on March 20.
