A Paramount man faces up to 20 years in jail after being charged with assaulting immigration officers at an anti-ICE protest earlier this year.
A federal grand jury has indicted Jacob Terrazas for allegedly assaulting and wounding a Border Patrol agent at a protest in Paramount on June 7.
According to the US Department of Justice, Terrazas threw several pieces of concrete at law officers during the protest. One of those fragments allegedly struck a Border Patrol agent in the shin, injuring him. According to officials, Terrazas and several others threw rocks and cinderblocks at agents for three hours.
Acting US Attorney Bill Essayli shared a video of Terrazas’ arrest on X. The footage merely showed a few agents rushing Terrazas and shoving him to the ground. Bits of cinder blocks appear to be on the ground in the region.
Protests broke out across Southern California in June, as the Trump administration ramped up immigration enforcement activities.
Protesters clashed with law enforcement on Paramount streets for many days. At least two other people have been charged with throwing concrete blocks and Molotov cocktails at immigration officers.
“We will not stand by while our brave federal agents and officers get hurt,” Essayli said in a press release. “If you injure an official enforcing immigration law, you may serve 20 years in a federal prison cell. It’s just not worth it.”
Terrazas will go on trial on September 23.
