Federal law enforcementĀ reported the arrest of a Haitian man living in the United States for crimes impacting the island nation.
According to the United States. On Thursday, Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE)’s Homeland Security Investigations arrested Pierre Reginald Boulos.
Officials made the arrest “for violating the Immigration and Nationality Act and contributing to the destabilization of Haiti.”
Boulos is a legitimate permanent resident of the United States who was also a Haitian citizen, according to officials.
Authorities say that the U.S. The Department of State found that Boulos’ continued presence in the United States could have had “serious adverse foreign policy consequences,” giving officials a reason to remove him from the country.
According to an official release, āOfficials determined that he engaged in a campaign of violence and gang support that contributed to Haitiās destabilization. Additionally, in his application to become a lawful permanent resident, he failed to disclose his involvement in the formation of a political party in Haiti, Mouvement pour la Transformation et la Valorisation dāHaiti, and that he was referred for prosecution by the Haitian governmentās Unit for the Fight Against Corruption for misusing loans, supporting an additional ground of removability based on this fraud.ā
Officials say Boulos is now being held in an ICE detention facility.
