According to court documents, a career investigator with the Houston Police Department pointed a gun at a youngster during an apparent incident, and he is now in jail.
According to court documents from May, 48-year-old Jason Ganaway was irate with the teen driver for allegedly cutting him off on FM 529 near Hwy 99 in Katy. The teen told officials that Ganaway, a 16-year veteran and HCSO detective, leveled a revolver at him.
Ganaway denied pointing a gun at the adolescent during an interview with detectives, but court records revealed that his account of events was inconsistent.
For example, Ganaway initially claimed that the two did not talk to each other, but in a statement made to investigators on the evening of the occurrence, he admitted that he may have raised his hands and inquired, “What’s up?”
Furthermore, Ganaway initially stated on the arrest paperwork that he couldn’t see the teen well since the windows were up, but he later recognized his hairdo.
When asked if he had spoken with the adolescent, Ganaway changed his story again, alleging that he might have inquired, “What the (expletive) is your problem?” The investigating officers noticed Ganaway’s differences when he began to demonstrate hostile characteristics, including sweating and raising his voice.
According to court documents, the most significant disagreement was the teen’s identification of Ganaway’s gun, which he described in tremendous detail. Ganaway confirmed owning the firearm but did not use it that day.
The court papers indicate security footage that helped explain the events and backed up the juvenile driver’s version of them.
The charges against Ganaway now include aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. As of this writing, KPRC 2 had not gotten a response to our request for a statement from the Harris County Sheriff’s Office.
