A Gary woman is facing many felony charges after allegedly leading Indiana State Police on a high-speed chase through local neighborhoods with four children in her vehicle.

According to court documents, a trooper encountered the suspect, Tiffany Renee Henderson, 33, on July 21, 2025, around 8:50 p.m., while driving west on 15th Avenue near Morton Street in Gary. The trooper claimed that a red 2021 Ford Escape approached his patrol vehicle from behind at rapid speeds, nearly rear-ending him before passing on the right.

When the trooper activated his emergency lights, Henderson briefly came to a halt at 15th Avenue and Williams Street before accelerating away. During the subsequent pursuit, Henderson allegedly reached 65 mph in a 30 mph zone, ran many stop signs without slowing down, improperly passed other vehicles, and drove into the oncoming lane on Burr Street.

The chase continued as Henderson reportedly went over a curb and into a gas station parking lot before returning to 15th Avenue and driving east. She accelerated again to 65 mph before coming to a halt at the 1300 block of Wallace Street.

According to authorities, four children exited the vehicle, with three running inside a nearby home and one remaining with the vehicle. Everyone was regarded as extremely agitated and afraid.

Henderson was apprehended by police at the site. She was described as unpredictable and uncooperative, refusing to identify herself and allegedly shouting that she was “not sorry for what she had done,” “didn’t do anything,” and was “embarrassed.” Officers detected the odor of alcohol on her breath and reported that her Illinois license had been suspended.

Initially, Henderson agreed to undergo a blood draw, but she later declined after arriving at the hospital. She also declined the portable breath test. A K-9 check of the vehicle revealed the presence of narcotics, and officers claim they found a grinder, plastic container, and zip lock bags, all containing marijuana residue.

Henderson was transported to the Lake County Jail.
