A Galveston man, known as Alan Anthony Gomez has been sentenced to over seven years in federal prison for drug trafficking in the Eastern District of Texas.
The sentencing was announced in a press release by Acting US Attorney Jay R. Combs.
During a traffic stop in the south in November of last year, a car with Gomez sitting shotgun was pulled over for unknown reasons.
The car was stopped while driving through Liberty County; trapped between competing alibis and the distinct odor of marijuana, a search ensued.
Officials found over just air fresheners and weed—nine kilograms of cocaine were found bundled up. Gomez, according to court documents, admitted on the spot that the packages were filled with coke, not fentanyl.
U.S. District Judge Marcia A. Crone sentenced Gomez to 87 months in federal prison Friday.
Gomez, who pleaded guilty to possession with intent to distribute cocaine, was not fighting the substantial sentence he is now facing.
The case was a collaborative effort between the United States Drug Enforcement Administration and the Liberty County Sheriff’s Office, which brought Gomez’s free run to a Stop. Assistant US Attorney Rachel Grove spearheaded the prosecution that resulted in Gomez’s sendingencing.
