The last of four men sentenced to federal prison for participating in a two-day carjacking and robbery spree across Chicago in September 2022.

Dwight Hasberry, 31, was sentenced to 15 years in federal prison on Wednesday, joining co-defendants Damandre Henley, 28, who was sentenced to 22 years earlier this year; Davario McDowell, 25, who received 18 years; and Tyler Oates-Nelson, 29, who received 15 years.

According to federal authorities, the group’s criminal spree began late on September 28, 2022, when they carjacked a 21-year-old male on the 1400 block of West Erie Street. The victim, a licensed concealed-carry holder, was seated in his black Volkswagen Tiguan with a young child in the back seat when the masked perpetrators approached with their pistols drawn.

Prosecutors say Henley, Hasberry, and McDowell waved firearms at the man and child before ordering them out of the car. Before they drove away in the Tiguan, one of the males stole the victim’s concealed weapon.

Less than 30 minutes later, the group attacked again in Ravenswood, committing two street robberies and stealing a backpack, phone, wallet, and keys. They then went to a 7-Eleven located at 2900 West Montrose Avenue.

Inside the business, Henley allegedly grabbed the clerk by the shirt and led him to a back office while demanding money. However, the cashier, who failed to speak English, reportedly attempted to explain that there was no cash available. Prosecutors claimed Henley struck the guy on the forehead twice with a revolver before bringing him to the front registers, where he and Hasberry held the clerk at gunpoint while he opened the tills.

According to investigators, another member of the group stole from the store by cramming bags and boxes with wine and cigarettes. Prosecutors claimed Henley later pistol-whipped the clerk in the back office, causing a head wound.

Oates-Nelson has a history with 7-Eleven locations. In 2018, he was charged with robbing two Lincoln Park establishments with an accomplice. At the time of his arrest, police stated his getaway vehicle, which had also been stolen in an armed carjacking, was loaded with 7-Eleven items. He pleaded guilty in 2019 and was sentenced to two concurrent six-year terms.
