A Des Plaines man was sentenced to 20 years in prison after pleading guilty to cocaine charges in Kane County.

Andrew M. Guca, 51, pled guilty in May to unauthorized possession of a controlled drug with the intent to deliver, a Class X felony.

Guca received a 20-year sentence from the Illinois Department of Corrections and must serve at least 75% of it. He will receive credit for 153 days spent in the Kane County Jail.

On June 6, 2023, an Aurora police officer stopped Guca, according to the prosecution. Officers examined his vehicle and discovered a bag with approximately 4,000 grams of cocaine in the rear cargo area.

The cocaine’s street worth was estimated between $120,000 and $144,000.

What they’re saying: In a statement, Assistant State’s Attorney Jake Matekaitis claimed Guca was attempting to transport a “very large amount of cocaine” and thanked Aurora police for halting the delivery.

“This sentence should serve as a strong deterrent for anyone who might consider peddling dangerous drugs for their own financial benefit. They will be caught and we will hold them accountable,” he added.
