A Chicago man is facing several felony charges after police say he sold fentanyl and cocaine twice in the parking lot of a Hammond Walmart, then attempted to flee during his arrest.
According to court documents, Rudy E. Wallace conducted drug deals on June 30 and July 15, 2025, in the parking lot of the Walmart at 7850 Cabela Drive in Hammond.
Wallace was spotted coming on June 30 as a passenger in a black Chevrolet Avalanche. He entered another vehicle in the parking lot and quickly fled. Detectives later discovered a plastic bag with 26 baggies of a powdery substance and 3 baggies of a rock-like substance. Testing indicated that the powder contained 20.0 grams of fentanyl (including packaging), while the rock-like substance had 0.7 grams of cocaine base.
Wallace was seen entering a vehicle in the same parking lot once more on July 15. After a brief stay, he left and began walking away. Officers moved in to apprehend him and announced their presence. Wallace dashed toward the Walmart door and jumped into the passenger seat of a gray Volkswagen Passat, demanding at the driver to “go.” The vehicle was stopped by police, and Wallace attempted to insert the keys into the ignitiOfficers ordered him to show his hands and exit the car, but he resisted by reaching for his waistband and refusing to be handcuffed.fed. He eventually complied after being told he would be tased.
Police discovered 38 baggies containing a powdered substance inside the vehicTesting revealed that the substance in the baggies contains fentanyl and weighs 26.0 grams (including packaging).ng). Officers also discovered $1,376 in cash located in the pocket of Wallace’s pants.ket.
He was taken to the Lake County Jail and is currently incarcerated there.

• Dealing in Cocaine – Level 5 Felony
• Resisting Law Enforcement (Fleeing) – Class A Misdemeanor
• Resisting Law Enforcement (Forcible Resistance) – Class A Misdemeanor
