An Arizona father and son were sentenced to prison for dealing fentanyl, officials reported Thursday.

Agustin Nava-Nunez was sentenced to 10 years in prison on June 18 after pleading guilty to conspiracy to possess a narcotic drug (fentanyl) for sale, according to the Arizona Attorney General’s Office. Nava-Nunez has one prior felony conviction.

Meanwhile, on May 20, his son Agustin Nava Jr. was sentenced to two years in jail, followed by two years of supervised probation, for illegally conducting an enterprise and attempting to commit possession of a narcotic drug (fentanyl) for sale.

“My office has been directed to aggressively investigate and prosecute those who are part of the network of fentanyl dealers infiltrating our community,” Arizona Attorney General Kris Mayes said in the announcement. “If you are contributing to the illegal distribution of fentanyl through Arizona. we will find you and we will bring you to justice.”

Details on investigation into Arizona father-son duo

According to the Arizona Attorney General’s Office, investigators launched their long-term investigation against the father-son combination in July 2024.

The inquiry not only revealed Nava-Nunez’s involvement in illegal drug sales, but it was also discovered through surveillance that Nava Jr. would transport Nava-Nunez to the transactions and conduct them on his behalf.

Last year, on October 21, detectives discovered Nava-Nunez in possession of “two packages,” prompting authorities to examine his home.

During the search, roughly 7,500 fentanyl tablets were discovered in a garbage can in the backyard and seized.
