Sue Caraker (left) and her daughter Charlene (right) were hoping that the crowds that filled the Aransas Pass VFW Post 2932 last weekend would bring in some much-needed revenue for their Ingleside home-based business, Caraker Crocheting & Plants. The pair had a variety of car ‘freshies’, and hand-crocheted beanie caps for young children, among other items. The Post at 620 W. Wheeler Ave. was filled with people inside and outside August 5-6. Brianna DeLeon and her fiancé, Spencer Bosarge were also selling items from another Ingleside home-based business, Bri and Rose Boutique. Their extensive product line included candles, customized tumblers, and a variety of individual and home décor. Market Days returns Saturday, August 19 from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., then October 7-8 and again, December 2-3 from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Nestor Angel and his family, owners of Texas Pride Sports Bar & Grill at 3792 FM 1069 in Ingleside spent Saturday afternoon, July 29th, handing out free backpacks and supplies to local kids returning to class this month who could use some free help to get the school year started. But the Angel’s didn’t do it all on their own. Nestor told the newspaper many individuals and other area businesses stepped up when they heard of his efforts to make back-to-school a positive experience for many who are in need and their families are struggling financially. In all, 400 backpacks were distributed, and three $100 gift cards were awarded to a lucky few to continue their back-to-school shopping. Some of the other benefactors involved included Midstream Texas, ETEC Industrial Service, Kristi and Sebastian Canales, Paula Ortiz, Monica and Gilbert Canales, Jessica Lazano, Karen Richardson, David Guzman, Ashley Torres, Juan Pence, and Monica Prado.
