Albert Wayne Harbaugh
Albert Wayne Harbaugh, age 93 was born in Cunningham, KS on Feb. 29, 1924 to Albert Wesley Harbaugh and Blanche Bebout Harbaugh. He lived in many places including Corpus Christi, Portland and Aransas Pass. Wayne passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Jan. 29, 2018. Wayne joined the Army during WWII in February 1943 and served in the European Theatre under General George S. Patton’s beloved 3rd Army. Wayne married Wanda Louise Flournoy on Oct. 28, 1946 in Corpus Christi. He worked in many different jobs in his life - sheet metal worker, insurance adjuster, automobile appraiser, and land man were just a few. He eventually started his own company, Coastal Appraisal Service, with his wife, Wanda, until he retired at 80 years old. Wayne was also a very good artist and musician/guitar player in his spare time. Wayne became a believer and follower in Jesus as a young boy and held strong to his faith throughout his lifetime. Wayne joined the Army as an enlisted man and began his training in Camp McCain, MS. He was in the 87th infantry 347 Regiment as a SSGT of a Mortar platoon entering combat in Metz, France in December 1944, fighting in five major battles including the Battle of the Bulge, Ardennes Forest, Alsace, entered Germany and remained to VE Day, May 8, 1945. He received a Battlefield Commission in Lissendorf, Germany. He earned many valorous awards including: Battlefield Commission, Silver Star, Bronze Star and a Purple Heart. “It is foolish and wrong to mourn the men and women who died. Rather we should thank God that such men and women lived.” ~General George Patton Wayne’s survivors include: his daughter Denese Terry and husband, Russell of Pinehurst; his son Lofton Kline and wife Pamela of Austin; one sister, Ellen Hamilton of California; five grandchildren, Stephanie, Stacey, Allison, Lauren and Bryan; eight great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. Wayne was preceded in death by his wife Wanda, his parents, three sisters, and four brothers. Services will be held at Oak Ridge Baptist Church in Portland, Texas on Wednesday, Feb. 7, 2018 at 10 a.m.
