Three brothers have been sentenced to prison for a series of armed robberies in Virginia and Maryland, including one at a tobacco shop near Bailey’s Crossroads.
According to a news release from the United States Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Virginia, the Washington, D.C.-based brothers robbed a convenience store, four tobacco businesses, and a gas station between September 2023 and February 2024.
During the robberies, the brothers donned masks and gloves, flashed firearms, beat a victim, and took cash and smokes.
On December 18, 2024, Andre Joel White Jr., 41, pleaded guilty to three counts of using, carrying, and brandishing a firearm during a violent offense. On August 7, he was condemned to ten years and six months in jail.
On February 5, Abdullah Khalil Ismael DeVaughn Michelle, also known as Damien Devaughn Moore, 43, pleaded guilty to conspiracy to interfere with commerce by robbery and two charges of using, carrying, and brandishing a firearm during a violent felony. He received a 21-year sentence on July 2.
Aaron Isaiah Devaughn Aaron White, 29, received a 14-year jail term after pleading guilty to two counts of using, carrying, and brandishing a firearm during a violent incident.
One of their offenses was robbing the Tobacco Mart at 5707 Seminary Road in Bailey’s Crossroads.
According to an affidavit submitted by the FBI, they arrived at the store soon before 11 p.m. on December 4, 2023, and robbed an employee at gunpoint while he was counting money in the register before closing the store.
One of the brothers, armed with a revolver, leaped over the sales counter and demanded money. After taking about $700 from the register, he forced the employee to the back of the business and demanded that he unlock the safe.
However, the employee was unable to access the safe. Meanwhile, the other two brothers placed around 150 cartons of Newport cigarettes, worth $12,500, into plastic bags.
Surveillance footage showed the boys fleeing in a gray Toyota Camry that they had stolen in D.C. Cell location data revealed that Michelle’s and White’s phones were all in the general vicinity of the business at the time of the robbery.
