2 Alleged Copper Wire Thieves Shot By Property Owner In North Houston

Two alleged thieves were sent to the hospital after a property owner shot them after a confrontation in north Houston as they attempted to steal copper wiring.

Details are restricted because it is an active investigation, but the Houston Police Department said they received a call just before 4:30 a.m. about a shooting on E. Burress Street near the North Freeway.

According to preliminary information, the shooting occurred when two individuals attempted to steal copper wire when the property owner caught them in the act. According to authorities, the property owner fired at them with a shotgun during the confrontation, striking one of them in the face.

Both suspected burglars were taken to local trauma hospitals. Officers searched the area but did not find any other suspects.

As of this writing, no new information had been given, but an investigation was still underway.
