A Maryland man has pleaded guilty to interfering with security screening personnel following a violent incident at Washington Dulles International Airport.

According to court documents, on March 13, Christopher Stuart Crittenden, 54, of Frederick, drank several alcoholic beverages and grew enraged by a delay and his seat assignment. The retired fire captain yelled expletives at a gate worker, causing the agent to notify the flight captain that Crittenden was most likely intoxicated and verbally assaulting airline employees.

The captain approached Crittenden at the gate and informed him that he could not go on the plane. In response, Crittenden punched the agent in the face, knocking him out briefly. Crittenden also tried to strike another gate agent, but the agent dodged the attack.

Crittenden is set to be sentenced on October 9 and could face up to ten years in jail. A federal district court judge will impose a sentence after examining the United States Sentencing Guidelines and other statutory circumstances.
