Attorney General Todd Rokita has filed a petition to suspend Rensselaer physician Dr. Patrick Sheets’ Controlled Substance Registration due to allegationsย of unsafe prescribing practices. These allegations include prescribing controlledย substances to patients with prior substance misuse difficulties without proper evaluations.
Dr. Sheets was the subject of numerous complaints to Rokita’s office. One family member complained that Dr. Sheets provided addictive drugs to their mother despite her addiction, resulting in legal problems and multiple rehab stints. Another former patient claimed that he was coerced into unlawful actions to continue receiving medication.
โProtecting Hoosiers from unsafe medical practices is a top priority,โ Rokita said. โThe allegations against Dr. Sheets, if substantiated, indicate a pattern of reckless behavior that endangers patients.โ
The FBI and DEA conducted a raid on Dr. Sheets’ offices in mid-June 2025. The Jasper County Health Department closed his clinic owing to a lack of basic amenities.
Rokita stressed the state’s role in licensing, stating that “Licensing at its core is a state issue, which impacts Hoosiers where they live and obtain healthcare.”
On July 14, 2025, the Indiana Board of Pharmacy will review Dr. Sheets’ petition to have his registration suspended. The Consumer Protection Division accepts additional complaints about Dr. Sheets from the public.
