Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) detained Juan Carlos Torres Negrete, a Mexican national, on June 30 for his affiliation with the Sureño gang.
According to ICE, the gang is infamous for a variety of illegal activities, such as arms, drug, and human trafficking, as well as extortion, robbery, and murder.
The Sureños gang has a stronghold in Southern California with a considerable presence in Texas, Utah, Arizona, Colorado, New Mexico, and Nevada.
Due to the violent nature of the gang, Torres Negrete will stay in detention pending removal proceedings, ICE says.
