A Florida man who believed he was in Atlanta was rescued by Arizona troopers after ending up in Apache County, the Department of Public Safety announced Monday.
The man called DPS and indicated that he was driving a Chevrolet Malibu and had no idea where he was. He told authorities he was thirsty, hungry, and on the verge of passing out, but he lost contact as soon as the call ended.
DPS Highway Patrol located the man in a remote area of Apache County, east of US Highway 191 in northeastern Arizona. Troopers and rangers conducted a thorough search before locating him, according to the DPS.
Authorities discovered that the 80-year-old man, who suffers from dementia, believed he was transporting items to a friend living in Georgia.
DPS made preparations to transport the man back home.
