A man was shot and killed early Thursday morning following an argument that turned violent at a Galveston convenience store. Police are now searching for the suspected shooter.
The incident occurred around 2:45 a.m. at the Tri-Star Exxon located at the corner of Broadway/Avenue J and 45th Street, according to Galveston Police Chief Douglas Balli.
Chief Balli said two men pulled up to a gas pump in a white Chevrolet pickup, went inside the store to buy a few items, and then returned to their vehicle.
Moments later, one of the men jumped out of the truck and tried to flee. The second man, carrying a handgun, chased after him and shot him multiple times in the yard of a nearby home on 44th Street.
After the shooting, the gunman returned to the truck parked at the gas station and drove off, Balli said. Police have not yet shared what sparked the argument.
Suspect caught on surveillance
Police released still images from surveillance footage showing the suspect and the white Chevrolet pickup.
The suspect is described as a Hispanic man in his 30s with a buzz cut and a closely trimmed beard. He was last seen wearing blue jeans and a red or orangish short-sleeve T-shirt.
Although investigators believe the shooting resulted from a dispute between the two men, Chief Balli cautioned that the suspect is armed and dangerous and should not be approached.
Anyone with information about the suspect’s whereabouts is asked to contact Galveston Police at (409) 765-3779.
